Important update to the dissertation submission process

Dear Student,

The School of Advanced Studies has listened to your feedback and is excited to announce a policy update regarding the Quality Review Method (QRM) submission, the Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission and the Quality Review Final (QRF) submission processes for both the practitioner and PhD programs.
  • You must receive Dissertation Committee Chairperson and Dissertation Committee Member approval and permission prior to submitting your work into the SASWeb, which you can view on eCampus.
  • Quality Review Method (QRM)
    • Initial submissions may occur during any qualifying class following the Year-Three Residency or following the exam for PhD students.
    • Qualifying QRM-submission classes include:
      • Practitioner: DOC 733 (A/B), DOC 740R, research elective courses
      • PhD/NUR: DOC 736N (1/2/3)
      • PhD/HEA: DOC 736 (A/B/C)
      • PhD/IO: DOC 736 (I/O)
    • Your initial QRM submission must occur within a qualifying class. However, with approval from your Dissertation Committee Chairperson, you may have 28 calendar days from the last day of the qualifying course to make your initial submission.
      • Similarly, with approval from your Dissertation Committee Chairperson, and if your initial submission was completed within the approved timeframe, you may make a resubmission within 90 calendar days from the last day of the qualifying class.
      • It is important to note that if the QRM review indicates substantive revisions must be made, the Dissertation Committee Chairperson may require an additional qualifying course to address revisions instead of allowing a resubmission outside of class during the 90 calendar day period.
    • No additional resubmission time will be provided.
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB)
    • The IRB process is a completely separate review and process from the QRM review.
    • Following your QRM review approval, you may submit to IRB at any time.
    • However, if you are using financial aid, you must still adhere to all financial aid regulations regarding attendance. Please contact your Finance Advisor with questions related to financial aid.
    • Once you receive final, Full Board IRB approval, according to Federal Regulations, this approval is valid for one (1) year.
      • If this Full Board IRB Approval expires, you will need to request a time extension. You should expect to submit to IRB a resubmission that includes your proposal, the IRB Application, the IRB Change matrix and the time extension request.
  • Quality Review Final (QRF)
    • Once you have received Full Board IRB approval and completed your research and dissertation, you may make your initial submission for QRF.
    • Your initial submission must occur during a qualifying QRF class.
    • Qualifying QRF-submission classes include:
      • Practitioner: DOC 734 (A/B)
      • PhD/NUR: DOC 738N (1/2/3)
      • PhD/HEA: DOC 738 (A/B/C)
      • PhD/IO: information coming soon
    • Your initial QRF submission must occur within a qualifying class. However, with approval from your Dissertation Committee Chairperson, you may have 28 calendar days from the last day of the qualifying course to make the initial submission.
      • Similarly, with approval from your Dissertation Committee Chairperson and if your initial submission was completed within the approved timeframe, you may make a resubmission within 90 calendar days from the last day of the qualifying class.
      • It is important to note that if the QRF review indicates substantive revisions must be made, the Dissertation Committee Chairperson may require an additional qualifying course to address revisions instead of allowing a resubmission outside of class during the 90 calendar day period.
    • No additional resubmission time will be provided.
  • Any calendar day timeframe period includes all University-recognized holidays.
  • Again, if you are using financial aid, you must still adhere to all financial aid regulations regarding attendance. Please contact your Finance Advisor with questions related to financial aid.
This document supersedes all other previously distributed communications.

The School of Advanced Studies believes the policy change will provide even more opportunity for your continued success in your degree program.

Sincerely,

William C. Beck II, PhD
